A hot cup of strong espresso!

I was casually browsing through Facebook as I gobbled on my breakfast. The steam from the small paper cup containing the black colored liquid slowly swirled and disappeared near my chin. As I leaned forward to read the post more intently…the #metoo campaign which protests against physical abuse. I wondered if like this steam this too would fizzle out?

There have been many such campaigns to raise awareness to protest against a societal evil…and I laud the efforts that every individual puts in. But, the question is what happens? The steaming cup of enrage often swirls and disappears. (Ah! I sound pessimistic don’t why… but if you are reading this now is your chance to scroll down… if there is still a small flicker of interest… yay I’m glad that I have one more member to join the club of sarcastic pessimism… ;) )

As I read a rather interesting post by Mayim Bialik better known as Dr. Amy Farah Fowler from the Big Bang Theory, I couldn’t help but realize the endemic that is abuse is rampant and often subtly ignored. Yes, groping in a crowded transport, to the leery look given by the  some random person as you passed by, to even the “accidental” brush also the hugs that lingers a second too long… all social “niceties” – they are all derogatory forms of abuse that not only women but unfortunately men face as well!

Yes #metoo should also feature men… strange? Well not so strange really… men are abused as much as women when it comes to such “objectification.” Whether it is the “manly” thing to “feel appreciated” for the throngs of female “attention” or the age old belief in-grained in the psyche that attention received by men somehow elevates their manliness—the fact remains that #theytoo have been abused.

A boy who was groped by an elderly aunt in the name of cuddling or a man who was gaped at as nothing more than a commodity wrapped in expensive fabric… objectification is rampant and often gender neutral!

While #metoo is a good initiative and one of the first steps towards raising awareness against this ever present evil in society. It is also gender neutral… I hope this campaign rises like a volcano and spreads the white hot lava to freeze all existing remnants of this evil existence (Ah! How I dramatize… :P) It is indeed time to #wakeup and #smellthecoffee

#randomramblings #metoo #coffee #wakeup

Disclaimer: please excuse my views, which I fear will bring the wrath of a lot of people… am shivering at the thought of the boiling cup of sulphuric acid that I’m about to be served. Here’s my alkaline #humblest apologies to all I have surely offended with my two pence worth of view point.
